I’d like you long time readers of Arsenic Lullaby to think back about 8 years to the first story involving the United States Department of Things Not yet Tried. It was a fictional government agency with no specific purpose, hidden deep in the bowels of the bureaucracy of the census agency. We’ve done more than a few stories involving them and even a short cartoon(which I never did get around to plugging)…made some t-shirts, commemorative coins…it’s been around awhile.

It has certainly around long enough for someone who spends a lot of time on the internet to notice. It’s been brought to my attention that someone may have “assimilated” my intellectual property. Normally I do one of two things. 1-call my attorney or 2- kick the crap out of the guilty party.
This time…I think I’ll do neither thank you very much. I think ..I’ll not cause any fuss at all…no sir.

Yeah…clearly these people would not be able to deny the likely hood that they saw my logo…their logo’s motto is damning testimony to the contrary. Yet…I think I’ll just move along. Cuba seems like it’d be a nice place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there…or eat my dinners off a steel tray handed to my through a slot in a steel door. I don’t actually know much about Guantanamo bay but it seems like it would a lot like the movie “Cool hand Luke” , except no one would be speaking English…and if they saw the woman washing her car in the distance they’d attempt to stone her.
Anyways, the reason I bring this up it to point out something weird…well..weirder. The actual logo was designed as though it is something out of a comic book, cartoonish style of octopus, cartoony colors, and the comic book logo was designed to look official. At the risk of over thinking things, knowing what I know about the psychology of manipulating reactions to images, I’d say it was designed this way to…hmm….nah, I’ll keep my mouth shut and just say this-
Hey, Uncle Sam, my freelance rates are pretty reasonable. You may want to keep me in mind, after all…I came up with your “new” logo 8 years ago.
hmm…let me rephrase that from “keep me in mind” to “consider me next time”.
