My Neck hurts and here’s some cool illustrators<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I got a pro-tip for you on how to shift away from being \n\t\t\t\tstressed out about the current state of things. What you do is, \n\t\t\t\tyou fall asleep on the couch with your neck at an impossible \n\t\t\t\tangle. You’ll be amazed at how the pain of truing your head to \n\t\t\t\tthe left eliminates giving a flying f*ck about anything else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a nice little reset button.  Now, whenever I \n\t\t\t\tstartdwelling on it, I just try to turn my head to the left, and \n\t\t\t\tmagically a blinding shot of painmakes me forget whatever I was \n\t\t\t\tthinking about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the many things going on lately as the result of the -you \n\t\t\t\tknow what-, the one thing that mystifies me the most is seeing \n\t\t\t\tfellow creatives posting work and talking about using the time \n\t\t\t\tto work on things.  I’m a bit envious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All I’ve been able to do is sit flabbergasted and \n\t\t\t\toccasionally blink. People are able to put this out of their \n\t\t\t\tminds and draw and write.  I’m amazed, that’s not a dig…I \n\t\t\t\ttruly am amazed.
To be able to ignore all of this to the \n\t\t\t\tpoint where you can delve into your imagination enough to be \n\t\t\t\tcreative at a high level…?  Either they are really well \n\t\t\t\tadjusted or complete psychopaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But as long as the ole’ carburetor between MY ears is \n\t\t\t\tflooded, this would be a good time to point out some other \n\t\t\t\tpeople I’m impressed by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…more like I haven’t been sleeping well (possibly because I \n\t\t\t\tkeep falling asleep on the couch) and am not as egomaniacal as \n\t\t\t\tnormal. One good nap and I’ll regret this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As far as comic book illustrators, who have more or less \n\t\t\t\tmastered their craft and have a distinct style, you often get \n\t\t\t\tone of two categories. You get real intricate, precise, type \n\t\t\t\tstuff, like say a George Perez, a Moebius…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And you got your wild, energetic, chaotic stuff, your Bill \n\t\t\t\tSienkiewicz, your Gene Colan…There’s others, but no one’s \n\t\t\t\tcoming to mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

note…not sure these are the best examples of what I \n\t\t\t\tmean, but I think they’ll do. I just grabbed up the first pics I \n\t\t\t\tsaw, it’s not good for the ego to spend too much time scrolling \n\t\t\t\tthrough work that’s better than yours<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Occasionally you get someone who is both wildly stylized and \n\t\t\t\tprecise at the same time. Like say, Kelly Jones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*note to self- pay no attention to the skillfulness of \n\t\t\t\tthe background texture<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While strolling around on Instagram a while back, if found \n\t\t\t\tsuch a person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is some really really impressive work. A solid mastery \n\t\t\t\tof the human figure, nicely detailed, precise backgrounds, lot’s \n\t\t\t\tof expression and energy…and the page layouts…cripes. So \n\t\t\t\tdamn good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is so much interesting technique in telling a visual \n\t\t\t\tstory and leading the eye, going on up on that page, I could \n\t\t\t\twrite a whole blog dissecting it. I’m not going to…I’ve \n\t\t\t\tdissected it for my own knowledge. You’re on your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You know when you’re good? When you can draw batman jumping \n\t\t\t\tinto action and have it feel like it’s the first time you’ve \n\t\t\t\tever seen such a thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This, is of course my favorite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have had many people draw up their own take on VooDoo Joe. \n\t\t\t\tAnd most have been good, well done, some of them very very \n\t\t\t\tskillfully completed. Hell, some of them more skilled than I. \n\t\t\t\tBut sometimes…a character is like a signature, it’s not about \n\t\t\t\tthe ability to write the letters….it’s something else that \n\t\t\t\tmakes it feel genuine. But THIS is the first time I saw one, \n\t\t\t\tlooked at it and saw Voodoo Joe, not a drawing of Voodoo Joe. If \n\t\t\t\tyou get my meaning. I look at this at it’s 100% Voodoo Joe, the \n\t\t\t\tpersonality is captured dead on, and jumps right out at you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another illustrator who’s no slouch is Ian Nichols, and for a \n\t\t\t\twhile now he’s been doing live drawings of commissions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOW, me myself personally…spending any amount of time \n\t\t\t\twatching someone draw isn’t that appealing, BUT I can see how it \n\t\t\t\twould be fun for others. There’s a link below of a session of \n\t\t\t\this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for me doing anything like this…meh…I am planning on \n\t\t\t\tdoing some videos breaking down they why and how I do stuff. \n\t\t\t\tMaybe I’ll get to that after this neck ache goes away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
