This is the plan for dealing with this \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvirus? Stay in our homes, don’t gather in \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgroups larger than 10…don’t have events \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlarger than 250? Wait and hope it \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpasses…re-assess the situation in two \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmonths?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, to hell with anyone who has a job in \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe restaurant industry then? The wait \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstaff, the cooks, the management, the \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdishwashers? To hell with everyone who earns \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttheir living producing supplies for them or \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdelivers those supplies?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To hell with anyone who works in a \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttheater or provides supplies or performs \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\troutine maintenance?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To hell with concert venues, the staff, \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe ushers, the janitors? To hell with the \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvendors? To hell with the bartenders? To \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thell with the bands, the speakers, the \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcomedians? To hell with their crew, their \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\troadies, the sound engineers, the \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\telectricians?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To hell with all of them and their \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tability to feed themselves? To hell with \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\teach and every last one of them in every \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcity in the U.S.?  To hell with any \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbusiness or industry that handles groups of \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpeople and to hell their employees?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All these people, some low income, some \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tliving paycheck to paycheck, they can \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tall…each and everyone one of the in the \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tentire U.S…. just sit and not earn a \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tliving for the next two months?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To hell also with the travel industry? To \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thell with the airlines? The TSA crew? the \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbaggage handlers? the people who run the \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tticket counters? The flight staff? The \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmechanics?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What, please ask yourself, will be left \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tin two months?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In most cases the employees would have \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thad to find and start new jobs. Just as an \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\texample, the TSA would need a new workforce \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tonce this has passed, trained from the \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbeginning in most cases, how does that idea \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgrab you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are you under the impression that these \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbusinesses and individuals will survive and \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tjust come back to provide those same \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tservices after you are all satisfied that \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthis virus has gone away? You think those \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvenues will survive? Those restaurants? The \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tairlines? You think they can just not \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgenerate revenue for two full months and \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\treopen their doors like nothing happened? \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFor the sake of argument, imagine if you can \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthat they do not have a bank vault full of \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgold to out last this plan, and never \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tre-open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Imagine the concert halls don’t re-open \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand the bands do not reform, imagine those \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcomedians and speakers are never again in \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe financial position to go out performing, \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\timagine the theaters also stay closed. It \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmay seem trivial now, but you’ll remember \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvery soon that human joy is precious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If that is too abstract for you…not \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tnecessary enough, then include in that list \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tall the local restaurants, and the impact \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthey have on the economy in the city in \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twhich you live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Imagine only two airlines left, or maybe \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tonly one, or maybe only one government run \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tairline set up for whatever is deemed \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t“required travel” until whatever is left of \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe last one can rehire\/train enough new \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\temployees to resume flights, as the majority \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof their workforce would have had to move \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tonto other jobs in order to continue to eat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workforces of all the businesses and \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tindustries that would be crippled or done in \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tby two months of inactivity, would have to \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tgo find other jobs. Maybe yours. But to hell \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twith you too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To hell with political rallies, and the \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tconstitutionally protected right of peaceful \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tassembly?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To hell with all of it, the death toll \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tafter two full months is 69…In a country \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof 330 million. Why, if that’s not cause for \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tshutting the whole thing down than what is, \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tright?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s the plan. I assume that will be \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe plan next year to when a new flu virus \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmakes itself known. Every year, right? \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThat’s what we’re doing? or just every few \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tyears when a virus with a scary name hits \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe news that’s killing people with \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tcompromised immune systems in some third \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tworld country, with third world hospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s a new one every three years or so \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfor the last couple decades. Sars, Mers, \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tH1N1, bird flu, ebola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This seems like a poorly thought out \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tplan. This seems like a plan conceived under \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe delusion that the only cause of human \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmisery is this new virus. This seems like a \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tplan thought up by people who don’t have to \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twork for a living and\/or won’t be acutely \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\taffected (at first ).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We could just do what we did when H1N1 \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t(swine flu) hit. Remember what we did? You \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdon’t, do you. Say that out loud to yourself \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t“I don’t remember what we did about swine \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tflu”…and now look at the plan you’re going \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\talong with to deal with this virus. Seems \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tlike there would be a mid range between \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmeasures so invisible you don’t even \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tremember them and SHUTTING DOWN AN ENTIRE \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCOUNTRY FOR TWO MONTHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If I could only choose between the two, \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tI’d choose between how we handled H1N1. It \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\thardly caused anyone to get evicted and or \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstarve or destroy entire industries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
