I’m not a Game Of Thrones fan per say, I’ve watched bits and parts, it’s a well done show. I’m not big on that particular genera, but a lot of people love it and think its the greatest show ever…and that’s great (they are incorrect of course…the greatest show ever is Deadwood).\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  I have been watching the final season, and I \nthink my lack of emotional connection to the characters gives me a good \nperspective on what was or was not well written. In the most recent episode ( \nseason 8 ep.5 ) there seems to be a sticking point for a lot of fans, an event \nthat people found to be a flaw or out of character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’d say those fans are incorrect and that this show demonstrated a very keen understanding of human nature. Those of you who don’t watch GOT might still get something out of this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 I have said before that “there are people who \nhave at some point put every once of their being into trying to accomplish \nsomething and people who haven’t…and neither type can truly understand the \nother.” I think the disagreement on the GOT episode is an example of this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m going to try to explain how that episode wasn’t \njust not guilty of bad character development, but showed a fine understanding of \nthe personality of a driven person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let me take you back to a classic \n\t\t\t\t\tcartoon- How the Grinch Stole Christmas- and we are going to \n\t\t\t\t\tput ourselves in the Grinch’s shoes. He hates the holiday, \n\t\t\t\t\tand begrudges the Whos in Whoville for their celebration of \n\t\t\t\t\tit. “No one quite knows the reason” but let’s say he has a \n\t\t\t\t\tjustifiable reason, or at least one he can justify to \n\t\t\t\t\thimself. The point is the Grinch has a goal he is working \n\t\t\t\t\ttowards and puts together a plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s not a simple plan. It’s \n\t\t\t\t\tcomplex, time consuming, challenging…requiring much skill \n\t\t\t\t\tand effort. He has to make himself a Santa suit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Disguise his dog as a reindeer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He sneaks into all the houses and \n\t\t\t\t\tsteals all the gifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

the candy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

the trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

he takes everything related to the \n\t\t\t\t\tholiday<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

from every single house…in the \n\t\t\t\t\tdead of night…in one night…without waking everyone up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"\/<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

It is a giant undertaking. It is \n\t\t\t\t\ttime consuming. It required thought, drive, energy. and all \n\t\t\t\t\tof that was for a purpose. a climax. In his case it was to, \n\t\t\t\t\tfrom high above, hear cries, or at least silence the next \n\t\t\t\t\tmorning…to have affected some dramatic change from what \n\t\t\t\t\thad been before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

But instead after a brief bit of \n\t\t\t\t\tshock or second of heartbreak…all the Whos carried on with \n\t\t\t\t\ttheir lives more or less unaffected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can you imagine the crushing \n\t\t\t\t\tanticlimactic disappointment this would be?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

all that time and effort only to \n\t\t\t\t\thave little to no effect?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

to get no visceral gratification?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You would have technically \n\t\t\t\t\taccomplished what you set out to do, by the letter of the \n\t\t\t\t\tlaw…if you wrote down the specific goals you would have \n\t\t\t\t\tchecked off all of the boxes…yet you received no emotional \n\t\t\t\t\tgratification equal to your effort. No ying to the yang, if \n\t\t\t\t\tyou will. No emotional release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is the pivotal moment we are \n\t\t\t\t\ttalking about here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Grinch, as we know, had a change of heart and went down to celebrate with the Whos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"\/<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

…but again, consider ALL that \n\t\t\t\t\twent into trying to extract an outcome only to have it not \n\t\t\t\t\tamount to any satisfactory dramatic reaction equal to your \n\t\t\t\t\tefforts, your sacrifice, exhaustion, frustration. Most of us \n\t\t\t\t\twould not go the way of the Grinch…most of us, even most \n\t\t\t\t\tof the best of us would have gone this way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It would be human nature, to not \n\t\t\t\t\tjust walk away in peace after all of that which you put into \n\t\t\t\t\treaching a climactic moment. To sit and accept the sum total \n\t\t\t\t\tof your efforts ending in not a bang but a whimper, is \n\t\t\t\t\tbeyond the restraint most mortals have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOW, let’s say…the reason the \n\t\t\t\t\tGrinch hated the holiday is that it reminded him of his \n\t\t\t\t\tfamily being murdered. Let’s say the Whos promised to help \n\t\t\t\t\thim fight some monsters and never showed up..and those \n\t\t\t\t\tmonsters murdered his friends right in front of him. Let’s \n\t\t\t\t\tsay the Whos shot his other two dogs with giant crossbows \n\t\t\t\t\tand the Who mayor chopped his best friends head off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

let’s say that is what was going \n\t\t\t\t\tthrough his mind looking down on the Whos in Whoville who \n\t\t\t\t\twere about to continue on with their lives, more or less \n\t\t\t\t\tunmolested<\/p>\n\n\n\n

so yeah…it is completely within \n\t\t\t\t\ther character and human nature itself for her to have laid \n\t\t\t\t\twaste to that city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
